Obama care - Health Care Act

Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all Americans or legal residents are now required to have health insurance or a coverage exemption. Otherwise, you will be subject to an ACA penalty. The new tax year is approaching and it’s important to be aware of the dates and deadlines to avoid these penalties. Here’s a list of dates that will come into effect for the upcoming tax season.

2016

November 1: First day of Open Enrollment!

December 15: Deadline for Enrollment begins 

December 31: Coverage ends for all 2016 Marketplace plans. Check your Marketplace account to see if your plan auto-renewed.


2017

January 1: First day 2017 health insurance coverage can begin.

January 23: IRS Opens for eFiling.

January 31: Last day to enroll in or change a 2017 health plan without qualifying for a Special Enrollment Period.

February 15: Last day to enroll in 2016 health coverage.

April 18: Last day to file taxes or apply for a 6-month filing extension.

October 15: Deadline to file taxes for those who received an extension.
